The Herbal Association of Ghana has renewed its commitment to promoting safe, effective, and responsible traditional and herbal medicine practice across the country.
The Association says Ghana’s rich heritage of traditional medicine continues to play an important role in healthcare, particularly within communities where herbal remedies remain an accessible and trusted option for many people.
According to the Association, strengthening collaboration between traditional medicine practitioners, healthcare professionals, researchers, regulatory institutions, and government agencies is essential to improving the quality and credibility of herbal medicine in Ghana.
Promoting Safe Herbal Practice
The Association is encouraging herbal medicine practitioners to prioritize proper hygiene, accurate identification of medicinal plants, appropriate preparation methods, responsible product labelling, and clear guidance to patients.
Practitioners are also being encouraged to operate within the relevant laws and regulatory requirements governing traditional and herbal medicine practice in Ghana.
The Association believes that professional standards and continuous education will help protect the public while improving confidence in Ghana's herbal medicine sector.
Preserving Ghana's Herbal Heritage
Beyond healthcare, the Association recognizes traditional medicine as an important part of Ghana's cultural heritage.
For generations, knowledge about medicinal plants has been passed down through families and communities. The Association says there is a need to document, preserve, and responsibly develop this knowledge while respecting the contributions of traditional medicine practitioners and local communities.
Looking Ahead
The Association will continue to advocate for the professional development of herbal medicine practitioners and support initiatives aimed at improving research, education, public awareness, and collaboration within the sector.
The Association also encourages members of the public to seek information from qualified practitioners and use herbal products responsibly.
“Our goal is to help build a stronger, safer, and more respected herbal medicine sector that preserves our heritage while embracing modern standards and innovation.”
The Association says it remains committed to working with stakeholders to promote the responsible development of traditional and herbal medicine in Ghana.
